Through the visible gear train system the astrolabium clock reproduces the annual orbit of the earth around the sun, with the earth rotating around its own axis once in 24 hours. The moon ball rotates around the earth in 29.5 days. completing a rotation on its axis.
In the course of one year, the earth passes al 12 zodiac signs, months and individual days. These are indicated on the brass disc.

The instrument is powered by a 'Hermle' quartz skeleton movement model 2987 which runs for about a year on a standard alkaline battery.

The glass dome is mouth blown and can have little bubles or irregularities which are a characteristic of this type of production.
